F35-AX: Yes
Archived previous-definition assessment — revision 5.73. Retired in 5.82; excluded from the active matrix and counts. This historical verdict is not a current assessment.
Rationale
The selected Linux NET/ROM stack separates endpoint transport circuits from routing management. Enabling netromd announcements on intermediate nodes replaces manually maintained reachability with advertised routes and aging: received NODES information is converted into kernel routes by netromr. Existing NET/ROM endpoint software and applications can use the resulting paths without replacement.
Assessment method
Primary specification review; no runtime experiment
Source context
RPL RFCs and pinned Linux NET/ROM routing daemon
Outstanding qualification
Before/after witness: provisioned static transit routes gain periodic routing exchange on configured AX.25 ports. Both endpoints already run the selected NET/ROM stack and announcement reception; transit administrators enable broadcasts, forwarding and appropriate quality/aging policy. Callsigns, ports, UID mappings and direct KISS serial links remain provisioned. This does not convert raw AX.25-only applications into NET/ROM endpoints, remove administrative privileges or establish seamless circuit survival after failures. Public-radio licensing and new runtime execution are outside this private-serial witness.
