Rationale
The pinned public glibc companion repository contains a patch only to nss/nss_files/files-hosts.c. Its instructions explicitly use /etc/hosts for I-LV resolution. This confirms that the older source release does not, by itself, supply the selected DNS NID/L64 discovery. The newer DNS-enabled FreeBSD release remains documented as binaries.
