D04-BA: No
Rationale
Linux 6.12 documentation defines batman-adv as an Ethernet-frame service behaving as a distributed virtual switch. Its configuration creates a batadv interface and attaches network interfaces. In the selected native L2 stack, locally administered MAC addresses identify interface/client forwarding endpoints; no additional user-controlled communication identity is defined independently of those addresses.
Assessment method
Documentary selected-stack classification; no new network execution
Source context
Official specifications and versioned project documentation retrieved 2026-10-15; retained document hashes
Outstanding qualification
Locally choosing a MAC is not the same as using another per-user protocol identity without interface/address administration. Delegated virtual interfaces, raw frame injection or an added authentication protocol are different capabilities and do not establish D04 here. The column remains native Ethernet without IP or an application security layer.
